With the rise of global warming, companies are facing new challenges that have an impact on their strategy and financial performance. In addition to physical risks (floods, droughts, etc.), companies face transition risks if they are not sufficiently prepared for the transition to a less carbon-intensive economy. However, these risks are difficult to quantify, which makes it difficult to anticipate them.

The Banque de France is particularly interested in these issues in the context of its financial stability and services to the economy and the community.

So what are the consequences of these transition risks in terms of financial risks?

It is important to better understand and be able to quantify these transition risks to help companies adapt to the climate transition and limit the associated financial risks.
